Sekiwake Onosato secured his second Emperor’s Cup and is on the verge of being promoted to ozeki, after defeating ozeki Hoshoryu at the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament in Tokyo. With a record of 13-1, Onosato used powerful shoves to push Hoshoryu out of the ring, avenging previous losses. In a post-match interview, Onosato expressed his focus and determination, stating that he still has one more bout left and intends to give it his all. The 24-year-old sumo wrestler from Ishikawa Prefecture had previously won the makuuchi division title at the Summer tournament in May, just one year after making his debut in sumo wrestling. Having already surpassed the required criteria of 33 wins over three tournaments for promotion to ozeki, Onosato is expected to be elevated to this prestigious rank for the next tournament.
