Ange Postecoglou praises Tottenham for staying composed in their win over Nottingham Forest

Tottenham achieved a much-needed success against Nottingham Forest, according to Spurs’ manager Ange Postecoglou. This marks the first time the team has won two games in a row in the Premier League since October. Dejan Kulusevski set up Richarlison for the opening goal just before half-time. He then became the goal scorer, taking advantage of Matt Turner’s poor clearance to extend Tottenham’s lead at the City Ground.

Spurs played the final 20 minutes with 10 men following Yves Bissouma’s red card for a high lunge. Nonetheless, the team managed to hold on despite Neco Williams hitting the post late in the game. Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League, Postecoglou praised his team’s composure, stating, “We had to deal with a lot of things we don’t normally have to deal with. Just great character.” He expressed pride in his players’ ability to remain calm and composed throughout the match.

Tottenham’s victory, however, was marred by Bissouma’s red card, raising concerns about the team’s discipline. Postecoglou addressed the issue, saying, “It’s been a little bit of an issue. It’s a fine line with those things… the commitment to what we’re trying to do and not overstepping the mark.” This was Tottenham’s fourth red card of the season.

On the other side, Forest boss Steve Cooper lamented the mistake that led to Tottenham’s second goal, forcing them into a difficult position. Turner’s clearance went straight to Kulusevski, who capitalized on the error to make it 2-0. Cooper acknowledged the team’s struggle to capitalize on attacking opportunities, a concern that he intends to address moving forward.

Looking ahead, Postecoglou expressed optimism about his team’s progress in overcoming adversity but emphasized the need for improved discipline. Cooper, on the other hand, stressed the importance of learning from the mistakes that led to his team’s defeat. Despite their differing perspectives, both managers are determined to address the areas of concern and build on their team’s performance in future matches.

As Tottenham celebrates their hard-fought victory, both teams will take a close look at the lessons learned from this encounter. With the Premier League season well underway, these insights will be crucial as teams seek to find their footing in the highly competitive league.
