Billionaire Reid Hoffman, a notable donor to Joe Biden and the Democratic party, has announced his support for former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley. Hoffman’s move is seen as a strategic attempt to thwart former President Donald Trump’s bid for the Republican nomination. Hoffman, with a net worth of $2.1 billion, co-founded LinkedIn and has acknowledged visiting convicted child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein’s private island.
The Stand for America PAC, which is backing Haley in the GOP primary, was approached by Hoffman in December to make a $250,000 contribution to Haley’s campaign. According to the New York Times, the pro-Haley super PAC, SFA Fund Inc., agreed to accept the donation from Hoffman, despite his affiliation with the Democratic party and his support for President Biden.
In an open letter published on his LinkedIn platform, Hoffman revealed that his primary reason for donating a substantial amount to Haley’s campaign is to prevent Trump from securing the Republican nomination. Explaining his decision to support Haley, Hoffman stated that she is the only Republican nominee with a feasible chance of winning the GOP nomination, other than Trump.
Hoffman conceded that while he disagrees with many of Haley’s policy views, he believes that her potential administration would be less damaging to America than another term for Trump. He emphasized the need for Americans to engage with those they disagree with, particularly in the current state of political crisis.
Hoffman is recognized as one of the Democratic Party’s leading billionaires, along with George Soros. The two reportedly support a covert group called the “Good Information Foundation”. This foundation is credited with shaping the contemporary political landscape by allowing wealthy individuals to make large contributions to political causes without much public scrutiny.
Furthermore, Hoffman has been linked to various controversial political activities, including funding ads and other initiatives designed to influence elections in a clandestine manner.
