Denver Police Investigate Alleged Threat to Colorado Justices Following Trump Ruling; FBI is Informed

Local and federal authorities are probing a purportedly false report of threats against Colorado Supreme Court justices following their decision to bar former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 presidential primary ballots. The Denver Police Department said cops were dispatched to a justice’s home on December 21 for what appears to be a hoax report. “Everything checked clear and we are continuing to investigate this report. Due to security and privacy considerations and the ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide any additional information at this time,” Denver police said in a statement, reported CNN.

Extra patrols have been arranged around justice’s residences said Denver police. A Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) spokesperson noted that the bureau was “aware of the situation and working with local law enforcement” and vowed to vigorously investigate any threats or violence regardless of motivation.

The Epoch Times reached out to the FBI, Denver PD, and the Colorado Judicial Branch for further information. The incident comes as the Colorado high court ruled that former President Trump is ineligible to appear on the state’s primary ballot on the grounds of his involvement in the Capitol breach, which led to charges of “insurrection.”

Mainstream media outlets mentioned a private analysis from the nonprofit Advance Democracy, suggesting the presence of “incendiary” rhetoric in online posts linked to Trump supporters, but not specific threats. The Epoch Times sought a copy of the analysis from Advance Democracy.

Denver police stressed that they would continue to collaborate with local, state, and federal law enforcement to thoroughly investigate any reports of threats or harassment.

Trump has consistently denied being an “insurrectionist,” emphasizing his call for “peaceful” protests in his January 6, 2021, speech in Washington, D.C. He accused the Jan. 6 House panel of distorting his words and labeled them “political hacks and thugs” on Truth Social.

President Trump further rebutted the insurrectionist label, pointing the finger at President Biden due to his border policies. His legal team vowed to contest the Colorado Supreme Court decision at the U.S. Supreme Court.

The former president has dismissed the indictment against him as part of a political “witch hunt” and “election interference.” In contrast, he claimed his popularity is rising while President Biden’s approval ratings are slipping. President Biden refused to comment on the Colorado Supreme Court decision but asserted that the former president was “certainly” an insurrectionist while leaving the decision on the 14th Amendment to the courts.

The ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court is anticipated to be challenged and overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.
