Fixing the Most Annoying iOS 17 Features on Your iPhone: A How-To Guide

iOS 17, the latest installment of the iPhone operating system, brings various new features to the iPhone. From StandBy mode, interactive widgets, full-screen contact posters for phone calls, and the Journal app, it appears that most of these features seem like welcome additions. However, not every user is a fan of all of these changes.

Some users find adjusting to these new features as challenging since they were already used to the old ones. For instance, when the upgrade to iOS 16 was released, some users were unhappy with the new search button that was added at the bottom of each home page. This was due to the fact that it was accidentally being triggered. Similarly, with iOS 17, some users are also less than impressed with some of the new features.

In this article, we will discover a few useful tips for iOS 17 settings that are found to be annoying and tips to “fix” or disable them. With iOS 17, some of the new features like NameDrop, have caused some users to have issues with the automatic sharing of contact information. The feature also has the ability to share contact information between two iPhones when it is not being used on purpose.

The disabling of the NameDrop feature is easily done in the Settings application, where users can simply go to General, then to AirDrop, and toggle off “Bringing Devices Together.” In addition, the StandBy feature does not have the ability to block notifications, but users have the option to disable the notifications as a whole, or alternatively, hide the previews of the notifications.
These settings are found in the StandBy section in the Settings application.

Siri has also received a few changes in iOS 17, allowing users to activate the voice assistant by only saying “Siri” instead of needing a “hey” before it. These enhancements have inadvertently caused Siri to be easily triggered.

To revert back to the old voice activation, users need to go to Settings, then to Siri & Search, and select “Listen for” and choose the “Hey Siri” option.
