A man was brutally assaulted in front of his home on the first night of Hanukkah in New York. Joshua Merenfeld, a 40-year-old father of five, was attacked while standing outside his apartment building in Brooklyn. The assailant, who remains unidentified, approached Merenfeld and began hurling anti-Semitic slurs at him before physically assaulting him. The attack left Merenfeld with severe injuries, and the assailant also stole his phone before fleeing the scene.

Merenfeld described the attack as a “real beating,” highlighting the violent and unprovoked nature of the assault. He was left lying on the ground after being repeatedly punched and stomped on by his attacker. Despite the harrowing experience, Merenfeld was able to seek medical treatment and was later discharged from the hospital.

The incident is the latest in a series of anti-Semitic attacks in New York, reflecting a troubling trend of rising hate crimes against the Jewish community. Surveillance footage captured the suspect, who was wearing a mask, entering a subway station following the assault. As of now, the perpetrator has not been apprehended by the authorities.

The spike in anti-Semitic offenses in New York has become a cause for concern, with reports indicating a 214% increase in hate crimes against Jews compared to the previous year. The alarming rise in anti-Semitism is not limited to New York alone but is a global issue that demands attention and action from authorities.

The attack on Merenfeld adds to the growing list of anti-Semitic incidents that have plagued communities and instilled fear among Jewish individuals.
