Several top clubs interested in potential January transfer move for target player

Benjamin Sesko Eyes Premier League Move in January

Benjamin Sesko is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League in January, according to 90min. The 20-year-old has been a long-term target for Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle United. Sesko joined RB Leipzig from sister club Salzburg last summer but has played second fiddle to Lois Openda during the first few months of the 2023/24 season.

Sesko has only started three matches out of 16 in the Bundesliga and has been used mostly as a substitute. He has only been given a chance in two of Leipzig’s six Champions League group games. Reports from 90min suggest that Premier League sides, particularly United, Arsenal, and Chelsea, have shown interest in the Slovenian forward. Newcastle has also kept a close eye on Sesko’s development.

Intermediaries have previously indicated that Sesko could be available for a move in January, as he aims to secure more playing time ahead of Euro 2024. According to 90min, this stance has not changed, and all interested Premier League clubs have been informed of the potential of reaching a deal. A loan with an obligation to buy, should certain criteria be met, has been suggested. Sesko’s style of play is seen as well-suited to top-level English football.

While Leipzig would prefer to keep Sesko as they aim to challenge Bayern Munich, the opportunity to cash in on him for a significant profit is not something they would dismiss out of hand. The club paid just £20m for him last summer, and selling him could potentially double their investment.

Looking at the potential suitors, Manchester United signed Rasmus Hojlund in the summer for a deal potentially worth £72m. With Anthony Martial expected to leave on a free transfer next summer, Hojlund could be the club’s only recognized striker. Arsenal’s first-choice striker Gabriel Jesus has had injury problems, leading Mikel Arteta to consider alternative options. At Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino is still in need of an out-and-out number nine.

Newcastle, meanwhile, seems to be in a better position with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson as their options. However, both have struggled with injuries this season. The Magpies are in the hunt for reinforcements due to the injury woes.

Sesko’s potential move to the Premier League has attracted widespread attention, and it remains to be seen which club will secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
