Travel Guide Series, Snack Company Collaborate On Spicy Snacks; New Rice Crackers Will Incorporate Tastes From Global Dishes
Niigata-based snack company, Iwatsuka Seika Inc., has partnered with the renowned travel guidebook series, 'Chikyu no Arukikata' ('Globe-Trotter Travel Guidebook'), to release a new range of products in Japan. The collaboration will see the extension of Iwatsuka Seika's popular 'The Hitotsumami' line of beika, stick-shaped rice crackers, incorporating the flavors of spice dishes from around the world. The products will go on sale from June 3 for a limited time.
Chikyu no Arukikata was established in 1979 and covers information on approximately 160 countries and regions. In recent years, the brand has been used in the food industry to develop products such as retort pouch curry and cup noodles. Still, this is the first time it has been used for rice crackers.
The newly developed products are based on five spice dishes from around the world which were recommended by the guidebook's editors. The editors have tasted and tested the snacks multiple times to ensure they offer the heat, intensity, and umami taste that only the chosen spices can provide. The outer packaging features a design similar to the cover of the guidebooks.
Speaking about the collaboration, a representative of Iwatsuka Seika said, “We have created tastes that allow people to experience the world through rice crackers. The best season for beer is about to start, and we hope people will enjoy these snacks with beer.”
The new products will be available in three flavors; Garlic Shrimp, Tom Yam Kung, and Harissa Chicken, and will be sold at supermarkets nationwide from June 3. Two more flavors; Bouillabaisse and Jerk Chicken, will be available from July 8.
Iwatsuka Seika is widely known for its range of Japanese snacks, including rice crackers, nuts, and other traditional Japanese treats. By combining the unusual flavors of spice dishes from around the world, the company aims to bring a fresh twist to classic Japanese snacks. The partnership with Chikyu no Arukikata presents an exciting opportunity to promote the brand overseas and introduce international flavors to the Japanese market.
Collaboration is becoming an increasingly popular trend in the Japanese snack industry. This is an effort to combine traditional Japanese snacks with an internationally influenced modern twist, creating a new and diverse market.
With the weather turning warmer in Japan, the beer season is just around the corner. The introduction of these new and unique flavors will undoubtedly offer food lovers and beer enthusiasts an exciting new tasting experience
