AC/DC Drummer Colin Burgess Passes Away at 77

Colin Burgess, the original drummer of the iconic heavy metal rock band AC/DC, has passed away at the age of 77. The band shared the news of his passing on social media late Friday night, expressing their sadness and fond memories of the respected musician.

Burgess joined the band in 1973, along with other original members including singer Dave Evans, bassist Larry Van Kriedt, and sibling guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young. Despite being the band’s first drummer, Burgess was fired in 1974 after being accused of appearing drunk on stage. Burgess vehemently denied the claim, alleging that his drink had been spiked. He was subsequently replaced by Phil Rudd, but briefly stepped back into the role when Rudd broke his wrist in 1975.

Following the news of Burgess’ passing, fans took to social media to express their condolences and nostalgia for his contribution to AC/DC’s early years. One fan remarked, “as I love rock music especially from Australia, he was a part of a generation of great musicians that kicked off the music industry in Australia, condolences to his family and friends.” Another fan paid tribute, saying, “May he soar high, fly free and Rock on!”

Despite his departure from the band, Burgess’ legacy with AC/DC lives on. The band went on to achieve massive success, including hits like “Back In Black,” “Highway to Hell,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long.” Their discography boasts record-breaking album sales, with over 200 million albums sold since their debut.

AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2003, cementing their status as one of the most influential rock bands in music history. Their distinctive brand of scorched-earth, metallic hard rock has resonated with audiences across the globe for decades.

Today, the band continues to perform, with Angus Young as the sole original member. The lineup now consists of Burgess’ replacement Phil Rudd, bassist Cliff Williams, singer Brian Johnson, and rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, who is also Angus Young’s nephew.

The passing of Colin Burgess marks the end of an era for AC/DC fans. His legacy as the band’s original drummer will be forever enshrined in the annals of rock music history. May he rest in peace, his contribution to the world of rock music will not be forgotten.
