Three Individuals Wounded after Vehicle Crashes into Festival Location in Shizuoka

In an unfortunate incident, three individuals, among them a 2-year-old toddler, sustained injuries when a car unexpectedly crashed into the venue of a lively summer festival in Shizuoka on a Friday afternoon. Fortunately, all the affected individuals remain conscious, as confirmed by the Shizuoka Prefectural Police.

The local law enforcement authorities swiftly responded to an urgent distress call at approximately 6 p.m. on the fateful Friday. The call reported a vehicle recklessly plowing into a designated pedestrian zone within the Aoi Ward of Shizuoka City.

The alleged driver behind this distressing incident, identified as 26-year-old Kazuki Tokimori, was apprehended at the scene by the police officers on the grounds of suspicion of attempted murder. A resident of Shizuoka, Tokimori reportedly admitted to the grave charges brought against him, divulging this information to sources involved in the investigation.

The backdrop for this unsettling event was a local festival, which was thoughtfully hosted on a road temporarily demarcated as a vehicle-free space. The unfortunate collision unfolded when the car, going against the designated flow of traffic on what is usually a one-way street, entered the venue area.

Among the injured parties, a woman in her 40s was subsequently transported to a medical facility for necessary treatment. In a fortunate twist of fate, the injuries sustained by the 2-year-old boy and his father, who is in his 30s, were relatively minor, and they were not required to undergo hospitalization. Their injuries mainly consisted of abrasions, which were treated on the spot.

The site of the incident lies within a bustling shopping district, approximately 700 meters westward from the Shizuoka Station. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the need for vigilance and safety measures, even in spaces designated for community celebrations.
