Introducing Kosmik: A Visual Canvas with Built-in PDF Reader and Web Browser

French startup Kosmik is revolutionizing the concept of knowledge capture by incorporating an ‘infinite canvas’ into its tool, eliminating the need to switch between different windows or apps. Founded by Paul Rony and Christophe Van Deputte in 2018, Kosmik was born out of Rony’s frustration with the traditional file and folder system and a desire for a single whiteboard-type canvas to store a variety of media and data.

After three years of development, Kosmik now offers an interface that allows users to seamlessly integrate text, images, videos, PDFs, and links into an infinite canvas. The platform also features a built-in browser and PDF reader, making it a versatile tool for a wide range of users, including designers, architects, consultants, students, and retail investors.

Kosmik’s core selling point lies in its ability to combine various tools into one place, creating a powerful and integrated platform. The tool is accessible via the web, Mac, and Windows, with a basic free tier and a $5.99 monthly subscription for additional storage and unlimited elements. The company also has plans to offer a ‘pay-once’ model in the future.

In a major development, Kosmik recently secured $3.7 million in a seed round of funding led by Creandum, with participation from Alven, Kima Ventures, Betaworks, and founders from Replit and Quizlet. Hanel Baveja, principal at Creandum, sees the potential for Kosmik to disrupt organizational workflows and create immediate value for users, akin to Notion and Miro.

As Kosmik prepares to launch Kosmik 2.0 with enhanced features such as multiplayer collaboration and AI-powered auto-tagging for images, it faces competition from other startups like Berlin-based Deta and Sane. These companies are also vying for user attention in the knowledge-capturing space.

Despite the competition, Kosmik has already attracted around 8,000 daily users since its launch in March, with a growing user base that appreciates its innovative approach to knowledge capture. With its combination of powerful features and user-friendly design, Kosmik is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the evolving landscape of digital knowledge capture and management.
