Mayim Bialik Reveals She Was Fired from Hosting ‘Jeopardy!’

Actress Mayim Bialik, who recently took up the hosting gig on Jeopardy!, has been dismissed from her role after a short stint. Earlier this week, the 48-year-old announced that she had been let go by Sony. “As the holiday break begins in Hollywood, I have some Jeopardy! news,” Bialik began. “Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy!”

“I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year,” she continued, “and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family.” Bialik concluded her post by writing, “For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you.”

Bialik and Ken Jennings were initially selected to co-host Jeopardy! after the passing of long-time host Alex Trebek in 2020. In September 2021, the duo was slated to host the show through the calendar year, followed by being permanently named the hosts in the summer of 2022. However, in August 2023, it was reported that Ken Jennings would take over Bialik’s hosting duties for the Celebrity Jeopardy! segments.

Reflecting on her experience as the host of Jeopardy!, Bialik previously shared with ET in April 2022, “It’s changed my life in enormous ways. My recognizability and kind of familiarity that people feel with me is a lot more, especially with, like, a nightly show like that, when you’re on a show that’s always in people’s living rooms or wherever they choose to watch.”

This news comes as a surprise to many fans, especially after Bialik expressed her love for the job during her time with the show. However, the decision seems to be final with the show now moving forward without Bialik as the host.

Bialik’s journey on Jeopardy! may have come to an end, but her legacy on the show will likely be remembered by fans around the world. The network has not announced who will replace Bialik and take over her hosting duties for the syndicated version of Jeopardy!, but fans are eagerly waiting for an update on the show’s future.
